Standup 2.0 Smart Water Dispenser

The Bevi Standup 2.0 is a smart water cooler which offers a wide range of beverage options from a single machine designed for commercial spaces. The Standup 2.0 offers users options between filtered or sparkling, hot or cold, various drink enhancements such as caffeine, electrolytes, or immunity boosts, and a wide range of flavors. All of these features where implemented to offer a product superior to traditional bottled beverages, ultimately saving over 50,000 bottles per year.

Industrial Design

Collaborative Effort

Joining the Bevi design and engineering teams, I flew out to Boston, Massachusetts, to assist in developing the Standup 1.0 redesign. I spent three weeks helping define the overall design direction, user interactions, and accessibility.

Defining Details

Our design effort prioritized exploring and refining key user-facing aesthetic details, culminating in selecting a singular direction. Integrating the dispensing nozzle and surrounding surfaces was carefully considered and tested by constructing full-scale mock-ups. Strategic placement of branding elements ensures a consistent brand experience, evolving the brand identity of the next-generation Standup. This multifaceted approach results in a cohesive and aesthetically complete product.

Enjoyably Usable

In the Standup 2.0 redesign, many details aim to reinforce core functions and user workflows. The integration of LEDs surrounding the dispensing nozzle serves a dual purpose—providing intuitive user feedback, distinguishing between hot and cold water selections, and creating a non-disruptive, welcoming atmosphere in commercial environments. The exterior surfaces are designed for effortless cleaning and sanitation, and the drip tray's perforations serve as visual cues, guiding users on water direction and bottle placement while ensuring easy removal of any accidental spills.

Accessible

Considering diverse user needs, we introduced a secondary interface below the drip tray to accommodate users with disabilities who may face challenges reaching the touchscreen. The navigation buttons, placed within a comfortable range, communicate their functions clearly, enhancing the accessibility of the dispenser for all users.
